From a pluralized form of ܬܸܫܪܝܼܢ (tišrīn), from Akkadian 𒌨𒊑𒌓 (/Tašrītu/, literally “beginning, beginning of the second half of the year (starting with spring's first fruits), the seventh month”). Compare Turoyo ܬܷܫܪ̈ܳܝܳܬ݂ܶܐ (tëšroyoṯe) and Classical Syriac ܬܫܪܝܬܐ (tešr(ə)yāṯā)/ܬܫܪܝܘܬܐ.
