Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yügsük (thimble), from *yüg~*yig, whence also ییو (yiv, groove, channel). Ultimately from Proto-Turkic *yü-~*yi- (to sew);[3] cognate with Azerbaijani üskük, Turkmen ýüwse and Hungarian gyűszű.
