Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yarïsgu (“bat”), a development of *yar- (“naked; hairless”). Cognate with Azerbaijani yarasa, Old Uyghur [script needed] (yarsko), Siberian Tatar [script needed] (yarıskı), Salar yarasan, Turkmen yarasa and Tuvan часкы (çaskı).
