From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (kwlʾck' /kulāčag/, “small, round bun”), possibly related to کلوچ (koluč, “lump”).
The nature of the relation with Ancient Greek κόλλιξ (kóllix, “roll or loaf of bread”) and Proto-Slavic *kolãčь (“type of bread, pastry”), if any, is uncertain.
