Inherited from Proto-Turkic *čekük, *čeküč (“hammer”);[1][2] cognate with Azerbaijani çəkic, Bashkir сүкеш (sükeş), Crimean Tatar çöküç, Karachay-Balkar чёгюч (çögüç), Khakas сӧӧс, Kumyk чёгюч (çögüç), Kyrgyz чөкэч (cökec), Nogai шоькиш (şökiş), Tatar чүкеч (çükeç), Turkmen çekiç and Uzbek cho'kich.
