نعلبکی
Persian
Alternative forms
- نلبکی (nalbaki)
Etymology
According to Périkhanian, derived by metathesis from Middle Iranian *rambakīk, a diminutive formation from *rambak attested as Aramaic 𐡓𐡌𐡁𐡊 (rmbk /*rambak/, “possibly bowl”) in an inscription on a bowl discovered in Armenia. The spelling نعلبکی (na'lbaki) is then secondary to نلبکی (nalbaki), influenced by نعل (na'l).
