كوی

See also: كوى, گوی, and کوی

Ottoman Turkish

Etymology

Uncertain; perhaps from Proto-Turkic *kon-, *ko- (to put), whence قونمق (konmak, to settle, perch) and قومق (komak, to put). Alternatively, Nişanian proposes a derivation from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (kwd /kōy/, lane, street).
