كعك

Arabic

Etymology

Derived from or cognate with Aramaic כַּעְכָּא / ܟܥܟܐ (kaʿkā, cake, loaf), from Akkadian 𒈖 (kukku, cake, loaf, pastry, lump of dough), ultimately from Sumerian 𒈖 (gug, offering; cake). A widespread wanderwort found in many language families, Egyptian ꜥkk, ꜥq (a type of loaf) and Proto-Indo-European *gag- / *gōg- (round, ball-shaped object; lump; clump), likely distant cognate with English cake.
