Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian قبله (qibla), from Arabic قِبْلَة (qibla).

قِبْلَہ • (qibla) m (Hindi spelling क़िबला)

  1. anything opposite
  2. (Islam) that part to which Muslims turn their faces when at prayer; the temple of the Kaʻba in Mecca; Mecca
  3. an altar, a temple; an object of veneration or reverence; a father; a king, etc.; (by way of respectful address) Father! Worship! Sire!
