From Proto-Iranian *gah- (“to gorge”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰas- (“to eat, gorge”), of unknown origin. Cognate with Avestan 𐬔𐬀𐬵 (gah, “to gorge”), Sanskrit घस् (ghas, “to eat”); see the Sanskrit for more.[1]
