Inherited from Common Turkic *toŋuz (pig); cognate with Old Turkic 𐱃𐰆𐰭𐰆𐰕 (toŋuz), Azerbaijani donuz, Bashkir дуңғыҙ (duñğıź), Kazakh доңыз (doñyz), Kyrgyz доңуз (doŋuz), Turkmen doňuz, Uyghur توقگۇز (toqguz) and Uzbek toʻngʻiz.
