شبه الجزيرة العربية

Arabic

Etymology

Composed of شِبْه (šibh, quasi-) + جَزِيرَة (jazīra, island) + عَرَبِيَّة (ʕarabiyya, Arab, Arabian). شِبْه جَزِيرَة (šibh jazīra) by itself means "peninsula"; note, however, that عَرَبِيَّة (ʕarabiyya, Arabian) modifies جَزِيرَة (jazīra) rather than شِبْه (šibh).

Proper noun

شِبْه ٱلْجَزِيرَة ٱلْعَرَبِيَّة • (šibh al-jazīra l-ʿarabiyya) f

  1. Arabian Peninsula

Declension

In fully declined Classical Arabic, شِبْهُ الجَزِيرَةِ العَرَبِيَّةِ (šibhu l-jazīrati l-ʕarabiyyati). شِبْه (šibh, quasi-) is in the construct state, and both following terms are in the genitive case, with عَرَبِيَّة (ʕarabiyya, Arabian) an adjectival modifier of جَزِيرَة (jazīra, island), as described above.
