From Byzantine Greek Σεβάστεια (Sebásteia), from Ancient Greek σεβαστή (sebastḗ, “emperor's day”) + -εια (-eia, “-ia: forming place names”), from Σεβαστός (Sebastós) used as a calque of Latin Augustus. Doublet of سابستيه.
