From Old Anatolian Turkish دلكو (dilkü, “fox”), itself from Proto-Turkic *tülki, *tilkü (“fox”); cognate with Azerbaijani tülkü, Bashkir төлкө (tölkö), Chuvash тилӗ (tilĕ), Kazakh түлкі (tülkı), Kyrgyz түлкү (tülkü), Turkmen tilki, Uyghur تۈلكە (tülke) and Uzbek tulki.
