Inherited from Proto-Iranian [Term?]; compare Pashto بيزو (bízo, monkey). Anciently borrowed into Old East Slavic обезьꙗ́на (obezĭjána) whence Russian обезья́на (obezʹjána, monkey, ape), and likely into Old Turkic 𐰋𐰃𐰲𐰃𐰤 (béčin, monkey).
