Etymology
From Ottoman Turkish بالطهجی (baltacı, “hatchetman, axeman”). Composed of بالطه (“axe”) and جی (“a suffix denoting a profession or occupation”). See Baltacı.
Equivalent to بلطة (bálṭa) + ـجى (-gi).
