Etymology
From Middle Persian bʾlyk (bārīg/k, “thin, fine subtle”). Akin to Old Armenian բարակ (barak), an Iranian borrowing. One of a few adjectives that has preserved the final -g/k phoneme and did not undergo the regular sound change from Middle Persian to Modern Persian. Others include تاریک (târik, “dark”) and نزدیک (nazdik, “near”).
