Inherited from Proto-Turkic *umnït- (“to forget”); cognate with Azerbaijani unutmaq, Bashkir онотоу (onotow), Chuvash манма (manma), Kazakh ұмыту (ūmytu), Kyrgyz унутуу (unutuu), Tatar оныту (onıtu), Turkmen unutmak, Uyghur ئۇنتۇش (untush) and Uzbek unutmoq.
