Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ȫrmekči (“spider”), a developing of *ȫr- (“to spin”); cognate with Azerbaijani hörümçək, Bashkir үрмәксе (ürməkse), Kazakh өрмекші (örmekşı), Kyrgyz жөргөмүш (jörgömüş), Tatar үрмәкүч (ürmäküç), Uyghur ئۆمۈچۈك (ömüchük) and Uzbek o'rgimchak.
