اِسْطَاعَ • (isṭāʕa) X, non-past يَسْطِيعُ‎ (yasṭīʕu), verbal noun اِسْطَاعَة (isṭāʕa), active participle مُسْطِيع (musṭīʕ), passive participle مُسْطَاع (musṭāʕ)

1. (archaic) Alternative form of اِسْتَطَاعَ (istaṭāʕa)
   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 18:82:

     ذَٰلِكَ تَأْوِيلُ مَا لَمْ تَسْطِعْ عَلَيْهِ صَبْرًا

     ḏālika taʔwīlu mā lam tasṭiʕ ʕalayhi ṣabran

     This is the interpretation of that thou couldst not bear patiently (Arberry)

   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 18:97:

     فَمَا ٱسْطَاعُوا أَنْ يَظْهَرُوهُ وَمَا ٱسْتَطَاعُوا لَهُ نَقْبًا

     fa-mā sṭāʕū ʔan yaẓharūhu wa-mā staṭāʕū lahu naqban

     So they were unable either to scale it or pierce it (Arberry)
