פשיטת רגל
Hebrew
Etymology
Construction form of פשיטה (=extending) + רגל (=leg), literally: "extending one's leg". Based on a verse in the Mishna, Seder Nashim, Tractate Ketubot, 5:13, where the context clearly indicates that "extended his leg" refers to inability to pay a promised sum of money, however the origin of this Mishnaic expression is unclear.
