(jtrw, river, the Nile). The word was borrowed into Hebrew after the shift of Egyptian /t/ to /ʔ/, which is attested from the 18th Dynasty onward in the form of the alternative spelling jrw. Cognate with Demotic N36-N23Z1mwry (yr, river, canal) and Coptic ⲉⲓⲟⲟⲣ (eioor, canal).
