זוּז • (zūz) m (plural indefinite זוּזִים, plural construct זוּזֵי־)

1. a zuz (an ancient Jewish coin)
   • a. 217 C.E., Mishnah, Makkot 1:2:

     מְעִידִין אָנוּ בְאִישׁ פְּלוֹנִי שֶׁחַיָּב לַחֲבֵרוֹ מָאתַיִם זוּז, וְנִמְצְאוּ זוֹמְמִין, לוֹקִין וּמְשַׁלְּמִין

     "M'idin anu v'ish ploni she-ḥayav laḥavero matáyim zuz," v-nim'tz'u zom'min, loqin um'shalmin.

     [Those who say] "We testify that the man So-and-so owes his fellow two hundred zuz," and are found to be scheming, get lashes and must refund the amount.
