From Urartian 𒃻𒉌 (ša2-ni /šani/, “kettle”), from Akkadian 𒊺𒉡 (šen-nu /šannu(m), šennu(m)/, “metal kettle or cauldron”), itself a loanword from Sumerian 𒍏𒊿 (URUDUšen /šen/, “a copper vessel”).[1][2][3][4][5]
