The original spelling is կաւշիկ (kawšik), borrowed from Iranian *kafšīk. Compare Middle Persian [script needed] (kpš /⁠kafš⁠/), [script needed] (kpšk' /⁠kafšag⁠/, shoe), Persian کفش (kafš, shoe) and Central Kurdish کەوش (kewş, shoe).
