Etymology
From Iranian *karan- (“side”) + *banda- (“a tie”), from *band- (“to tie”), + -ք (-kʻ). Compare Avestan 𐬐𐬀𐬭𐬀𐬥 (karan, “side”) and Persian بند (band, “tie”).
