Etymology

From Ancient Greek καλοπόδιον (kalopódion), καλαπόδιον (kalapódion). In light of (-r), the borrowing must have happened via Northwestern Iranian, as with Old Armenian լամպար (lampar). Note that intervocalic Parthian -δ- yields Armenian ր (r), as in վրան (vran). Doublet of գաղափար (gałapʻar).
