Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish زبل (zibil) and in some dialects from Azerbaijani zibil, ultimately from Arabic زِبْل (zibl). The Van dialect զըբիլ (zəbil) is probably borrowed via Northern Kurdish zibîl.
