Etymology

Perhaps from Proto-Armenian *al-ó-, from Proto-Indo-European *plH-ós, the genitive of *pṓlH-s, whence ուլ (ul). The ending -ոջ (-oǰ) may be due to the influence of որոջ (oroǰ, lamb).
