From Common Kypchak sañïraw ("deaf", see the Kypchak cognates below).
Cognate with Tatar саңгырау (sañgıraw), Kazakh саңырау (sañyrau), Kumyk сангырав (sañıraw), Karachay-Balkar сангырау (sañırau, “deaf”); also Uyghur ساغرىغۇ (saghrighu, “deaf”), probably Turkish sağır (“deaf”).
