Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (qart, old man),[1] Kumyk къарт (qart, old).

Related to qarï "old" (Old Turkic [script needed] (qarï, old), Southern Altai кары (karï, old). Perhaps both are derived from a verb *qar- "get old".
