Etymology
From older чаҳор (čahor) / چهار (čahâr), Middle Persian 𐭰𐭤𐭥 (chr /čahâr/), from Proto-Iranian *čatwā́rah (compare Central Kurdish چوار (çwar), Ossetian цыппар (cyppar), Avestan 𐬗𐬀𐬚𐬡𐬀𐬭 (caθβar)), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čatwā́ras (compare Sanskrit चतुर् (catur)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kʷetwóres (compare Armenian չորս (čʻors), Lithuanian keturi, Latin quattuor, English four).
