Etymology
Perhaps from *kosï < *kozï, from Proto-Turkic *kuŕ (“northern slope”). Cognate with Turkmen guzaý (“shaded side of a mountain”), Azerbaijani quzey (“north”). Compare also dated kuz (“shadowed, sunless”).
