халуга
Bulgarian
Etymology
Standardized form of dialectal а́луга (áluga), а́ла̣га (álạga), from Proto-Slavic *xalǫga (whence Old Church Slavonic халѫга (xalǫga, “hedge”)). Further origin unclear. Perhaps from the root of Bulgarian ха́лост (hálost, “futility”), ха́лтав (háltav, “loose”) + -уга (-uga).
