Inherited from Old East Slavic оу́тꙑ (úty), from Proto-Slavic *ǫ̀ty from Proto-Balto-Slavic *ánˀtō from Proto-Indo-European *h₂énh₂ts. Cognate with Russian утва́ (utvá).
