Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *jar (“bat”) + *Kājnat (“wing”). Alternatively explained as Proto-Turkic *jarɨ-Kiajnat (“membrane-wing”). Cognate to Shor чарғанат, Khakas чарханат (çarxanat), Yakut сарыы кынат (sarıı kınat), Karaim jarkanat, Karakalpak jarg'anat, Nogai ярганат (yarganat), Kyrgyz жарганат (jarganat), Southern Altai јарганат (ǰarganat), etc.
