Synchronously, an inflected (ablative third-person possessive) form of the noun тараф (taraf, “side, party”).

Exactly analogous tp Azerbaijani tərəfindən, Crimean Tatar tarafından, Tatar тарафыннан (tarafınnan), Turkish tarafından, Turkmen tarapyndan, Uyghur تەرەپىدىن‎ (terepidin).
