From сви́я (svíja, “to curl, to roll”) + -тък (-tǎk), from an earlier Proto-Slavic *sъvitъkъ. Cognate with Macedonian свиток (svitok), Serbo-Croatian сви́так, Russian сви́ток (svítok).
