A regional Kypchak term. No cognates found elsewhere. Relation to *sakïŕ (“gum, resin”) is unclear.
Cognate with Tatar чәер (çäyer, “pitch, resin”), Kazakh шайыр (şaiyr, “pitch, resin”), Nogai шайыр (şayır, “pitch, resin”), Kyrgyz чайыр (cayır, “pitch, resin”), Karachay-Balkar чайыр (çayır, “pitch, resin, gum”).
