нашатырь

Russian

Etymology

Inherited from Middle Russian нашатырь (našatyrʹ) (since 16th c.), from Persian نشادر (nošâdor, nošâder, sal ammoniac) probably via some Turkic intermediary, from Middle Persian 𐭠𐭭𐭥𐭱𐭠𐭲𐭥𐭥𐭩 (*ʾnwšʾdwr /*anōšādur/, immortal fire), combinated from 𐭠𐭭𐭥𐭱 (anōš /ʾnwš/, elixir, antidote, literally immortal) and 𐭠𐭲𐭥𐭥𐭩 (ʾdwr' /ādur/, fire).
