Borrowed from Old Ruthenian нагорода (nahoroda) in the XVII (1696), from Polish nagroda. [1][2][3] Remodeled after Old Church Slavonic градъ, градити (gradŭ, graditi) later in the XVIII. Falsely believed to derive from unattested Old Church Slavonic *награда (*nagrada).
