Etymology
Borrowed from French mousquetaire or from German Musketier, influenced by the common ending -ёр (-jór). Spelling with ш influenced by мушке́т (muškét), in turn probably influenced by му́шка (múška, “little fly; front sight on a firearm”) (мушке́т (muškét) derives ultimately from moschetto, literally "little fly").
