Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic лиходѣй (lixoděj), from лихо (lixo, “bad”) + дѣꙗти (dějati, “to do”), from Proto-Slavic *lixodějь. Can be analysed as made of ли́хо (líxo, “evil”) + -о- (-o-) + -дей (-dej, “doer”).
