From Old Church Slavonic лиликъ (lilikŭ), probably a wanderwort akin to Turkish leylek (stork), Albanian lejlek (stork), Greek λέλεκας (lélekas, wading bird), Ukrainian леле́ка (leléka, stork), ultimately from Classical Persian لَک‌ْلَک (lak-lak).
