Derived from и́мам (ímam, “to have”) + -от (-ot). Cognate with Polish imota, attested in the phrase do imoty (“fully, to the very end”). Further related to Serbo-Croatian имо̀вина (“property, assets”), Slovene imovína (“id.”).
