From Proto-Tungusic *ilan. Cognate with Nanai илан, Jurchen ilan (Jurchen script: ), Manchu ᡳᠯᠠᠨ (ilan), Even и̇ла̇н (i̇lȧn), Evenki илан (ilan), Oroqen ɪlan, Negidal илан and Solon ilang etc.
