From Proto-Turkic *yubka (“thin (of flat objects)”). Cognate with Bashkir йоҡа (yoqa), Kyrgyz жука (juka), Southern Altai јука (ǰuka), Uzbek yupqa, Uyghur يۇپقا (yupqa, “thin”), etc.
