Not found in Southern Mongolian, but compare Khamnigan Mongol jaala (small), Kalmyk җааль (jaalĭ, newlyborn, child).

Perhaps derived somehow from earlier *jia-, compare Buryat жаа (žaa, small) and жаахан (žaaxan, little)
