Inherited from Proto-Slavic *věčьnostь. By surface analysis, ві́чний (víčnyj, eternal) + -ість (-istʹ). Compare Russian ве́чность (véčnostʹ), Belarusian ве́чнасць (vjéčnascʹ), Polish wieczność.
