Etymology

From вышива́нка (vyšivánka, Ukrainian traditional clothing) and ва́тник (vátnik, quilted jacket, Russian ultranationalist), in turn derived from Ukrainian вишива́нка (vyšyvánka). Coined in response to the vatnik memes mocking Russian nationalists.
